The translation agency relies on native professionals residing in the target language country, with experience in various market segments to ensure a high-quality translation.

The cultural identity of a people may be defined by many aspects. However, there is no doubt that language is one of the deepest, the primary means of communication in human relations. According to the latest edition of the book The Ethnologue: languages of the world, one of the biggest global language inventories, the total number of languages spoken on the planet already exceeds 6 thousand.

If we consider that each of them is the fruit of specific conditions in a society, we can conclude that every form of communication is marked by culture. That said, it’s easier to understand the responsibility lying in the hands of a professional translator: to transpose a message into another language faithfully and appropriately for the local aspects of its use.

According to Aleksander Honma, Director of the professional translation company Netwire, this is only possible when the material in question is translated by a native professional, with in-depth understanding of the target language culture. “This service goes far beyond literal translation. The translator must consider specific terminology and the political, economic and legal aspects of the target country,” he says.

Honma explains that being aware of these factors when hiring a translation service can help keep you out of some tight spots. For technical material providing instructions, for example, it is customary in English to use the word “Please”, as in “Please click here.” The Portuguese norm, on the other hand, requires a more direct instruction without this addition: “Clique aqui.” If analyzed inaccurately, this distinction many be construed as a crude form when compared to the source language, but in reality it is just a cultural adaptation to adhere to the style of such materials in Portuguese.

“These kinds of situations make us reaffirm the importance of a professional who is not only fluent in the languages requested, but who also experiences the local culture in depth,” says Honma, noting that Netwire relies on hundreds of native translators around the world, specialized in many different fields, such as heavy equipment, IT and Telecom, agribusiness, automotive sector, cosmetics, etc.
